Bank Indonesia (BI) has great faith in the communication of the Law No. 4/2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector, known as P2SK. The law mandates BI to achieve three noble goals, namely to achieve rupiah stability, maintain payment system stability, and contribute to the stability of the financial system, all aimed at supporting sustainable economic growth.
According to Wahyu Pratomo, the Head of the BI Kalimantan Selatan Representative Office, BI always applies transparency, accountability, and independence in pursuing these three objectives. He stated that one aspect of transparency is communication management. BI believes that without clear, structured, and directed communication, policy effectiveness cannot be achieved.
One common form of communication that BI engages in is the announcement of the Decisions of the Board of Governors (RDG). In this context, BI always accompanies the RDG results with underlying considerations and assessments. This is done solely to inform the public clearly about the direction of BI’s policy, so that public expectations can be directed towards the goals of the BI policy mix, which will ultimately generate the effectiveness of the BI policy mix.
Pratomo emphasizes that BI cannot manage its communication activities alone. The media has a role and responsibility to provide accurate and balanced information to the public. Therefore, BI highly appreciates and acknowledges the media, especially those in Kalimantan Selatan, who have helped communicate BI policies, so that the public can know the information and substance of BI’s policy communication.
As part of this appreciation, BI conducts Capacity Building for Journalists. Besides strengthening BI’s communication management in the regions, BI hopes that this activity will also enhance the understanding of all participants regarding the function and tasks of BI as a central bank, as conveyed by the message from the Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of Kalimantan Selatan.
Pratomo shared a little about the role and function of a central bank, summarized in the material entitled central banking. Therefore, it is hoped that the media friends can understand better the roles and tasks of BI, both in the context of the national economy and its position in the Indonesian Unitary State system.
The second message conveyed was that synergy and collaboration are the key to communication management since BI cannot work alone in managing communication activities. Therefore, the Capacity Building for Journalists conducted by BI is part of BI’s efforts to strengthen synergy, collaboration, and good relationships with the media.
He hopes that participants can absorb each insight and knowledge shared by the speaker to become a foundation for journalists when writing or reporting news. This not only relates to news about BI but also to news that becomes the task and responsibility of the journalists when they return to Kalimantan Selatan and work in their respective media organizations.
