Pemda Brebes plans to push for the regulation of company licenses as a form of investment promotion and to uphold order in the industrial zone. A number of investors have expressed interest in investing in Brebes, which has been designated as an industrial area. In a recent meeting with the Aliansi Masyarakat Peduli Brebes (AMPB), the Secretary of the Brebes District, Djoko Gunawan stated that they would encourage investors to fulfill necessary permits if they are deemed to be lacking.
Although Brebes holds a registry of companies, most permit applications are conducted online through the OSS system. Djoko explained that they currently lack visibility on the status of these permits. He went on to say that it would be helpful if members of the public informed authorities of any new factory establishments so that they can verify the status of licenses issued. If it is found that a permit is in the process of being granted, they will analyze if it is acceptable to embark on construction work before final permit approval is received. The relevant departments will be invited to come together to discuss the best course of action.
Djoko also emphasized the need for a collaborative understanding as well as for investors who have yet to complete the necessary permits to do so quickly. The AMPB Coordinator, Firdaus Andika, voiced his support for Pemda Brebes but also emphasized the importance of complying with permit rules. He called on Pemda Brebes to regulate, provide clarity and certainty of the Industrial Zone’s location, and take stern action on investors who refuse to comply with permit requirements as stipulated by Government Regulation No.5 of 2021. Firdaus added that such actions were aimed at educating and sending a firm message to investors to take the necessary steps to obtain the necessary permits.
Similarly, the Chairperson of the NGO LAPPAS-RI, Purwanto, expressed his hope that the relevant authorities would take firm measures to address all new constructions or existing factories that may have overlooked or disregarded the necessary permits, particularly for AMDAL. They propose that warning notices in writing and verbal form be issued, leading to temporary closure or cessation of business.
