In terms of history, Tanggari village was previously located in Kayu Puti or Walantakan, a village situated on the eastern side. The village was on the brink of destruction due to a massive flood that struck the area. Tua Umbanua or Wadian Teterusan, the village head, had received warnings beforehand. He gathered the village elders and held a meeting to discuss the incident. They agreed to move the village despite its age of approximately 457 years.
After the agreement, they relocated towards the northern side of the old village named Wukid. Unfortunately, this location was unsuitable for habitation as it was exposed to strong winds. Tua Umbanua called the village elders again to discuss a new spot that could be used for settlement. They agreed to pray together to seek divine guidance.
During their journey westward, they discovered a spot at the sound of a bird called Tumengaar. They stopped and noted the position of the sun, which was at high noon, and decided that this was the suitable spot to build a new village. They named the new village Tengaar, which became Tanggari in the current time.
In 2022, Desa Tanggari celebrated its 679th anniversary. Oscar Nelwan is the village head for the 2022-2028 period.
One of the village’s main potentials is the hot springs. The road leading to the location is made of a 2-meter-wide concrete road. The hot springs and the surrounding area could become an attractive tourist destination if developed accordingly.
