PT Parna Agromas, a palm oil company located in Belitang Hilir District, Sekadau Regency, has partnered with Manggala AGNI, DKP3, and the Environmental Agency of Sekadau Regency, as well as the Belitang Hilir Village Leadership Council (Porkopimca), to establish a Community Care for Smoke (MPA) program, while also providing firefighting equipment through a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program for nine villages in Belitang Hilir District.
The MPA program was conducted at the PT Parna Agromas Training Center from May 11 to May 13, 2023. The program provided training to representative participants from nine villages to increase the community’s awareness of forest and land fires (Karhutla).
Dadan Sundana, representing PT Parna Agromas’ management, stated that the training was carried out to increase public awareness about the dangers of forest and land fires. PT Parna Agromas, in partnership with Manggala Agni, Porkopimca Belitang Hilir, DKP3 of Sekadau Regency, and the Sekadau Regency Environmental Agency, is establishing the MPA program.
“CSR distribution is a regular annual program of the company, and this time the company is collaborating with related institutions and Porkopimca in forming the MPA and providing technical guidance on forest fire control, including training. Supported by nine village heads in Belitang Hilir District,” explained Dadan Sundana.
According to Dadan Sundana, the training of the Community Care for Smoke program is one of PT Parna Agromas’ efforts to prevent disaster by empowering the community, particularly in the nine villages in Belitang Hilir District, to provide education and awareness of the dangers of fire disasters.
The nine villages that participated in the training are Tapang Pulau, Empajak, Semadu, Kumpang Bis, Entabuk, Melanjan Raya, Sungai Ayak II, Menawai Tekam, and Merbang. In addition to establishing the MPA and providing technical guidance on forest fire control, PT Parna Agromas also provided CSR assistance in the form of firefighting equipment, a set of water pumps, nozzles, suction hoses, and hoses that will be given to each village government that participated in the MPA training and was symbolically handed over by Muhammad Taufiq, Manager of Public Relations & CSR.
“This training is expected to prevent forest and land fires, and participants are requested to pass on the training results to the community and firefighting teams in their respective villages,” he explained.
According to Dadan Sundana, with the support and cooperation of the community, PT Parna Agromas is committed to ensuring that land clearing policies are implemented without burning. “This includes continuous monitoring and risk management of fires to create a safe and sustainable environment,” he added.
Belitang Hilir Sub-District Head, through the Acting Secretary of the Sub-District (Sekcam) Wasiman Toha Supratman, expressed gratitude to PT Parna Agromas for partnering with the government in supporting the prevention of Karhutla through the establishment of the Community Care for Smoke (MPA) program.
